Measles outbreak investigation in Basso Liben District, Amhara Region, Ethiopia 2017

Measles is an acute, highly contagious viral disease caused by measles virus and transmitted primarily respiratory droplets or airborne spray to mucous membranes in the upper tract conjunctiva. one of vaccine preventable diseases but usually causes outbreaks especially among unvaccinated population.  The aim this study was investigate outbreak identify associated factors Basso Liben district Ethiopia.  An unmatched case control conducted from 90 subjects (30 cases 60 controls). Face face interview using structured questionnaire. Epi info version 7 used for data entry analyzed SPSS 20 software. Logistic regression employed with 95% confidence level statistical significance declared at p-value <0.05.  total attack rate found be 1.24 per 1,000 population district. highest age specific seen under- groups (4.76 children), next 1- 4 years old   (3.28 1000 population). In multivariate logistic regression, contact history AOR=8.132 (95% CI 2.047, 32.297) presence neighbor (AOR= 6.928; 1.37, 29.12) were risk contracting measles. But previous 0.10; 0.02, 0.56) vaccinated AOR=0.11 (95%CI 0.021, 0.573) protective measles.  Key words: Measles, outbreak, Liben, control, Ethiopia.
